Alfred Hitchcock’s Mystery Magazine

My first assignment for this fiction digest was in the summer of 1989, and in the twenty year period I worked for them I contributed around 139 illustrations for various stories and authors. While never a very high paying gig, I always valued the chance to be doing ‘pulp fiction art’ for one of the last surviving magazines of its sort. The challenges of reading a manuscript and trying to come up with a single image that draws the reader in without giving anything away was something I never tired of.

In my final year of working with them, I was given a chance to draw a cover illustration (a Sherlock Holmes story in which Watson gets to solve the crime), and I think it was one of my proudest moments.
