Pen and Ink

One of the first styles that I marketed was a simple pen and ink crosshatching style, and it was only used sporadically in the first twenty years of my career, most clients preferring the scratchboard style. As I began transitioning from newspaper and editorial work to more book publishing work, the style came out of mothballs and has been enjoying a resurgence thanks to its use in the ‘Who Was’ series of books for Penguin. A modified version of the style has now started to find a use as ‘coloring book’ illustration for several recent projects.

Personal work, part of a series of 'Facebook friend portraits' I did in 2012, using a variety of experimental styles.
