Mid June Roundup

AHMM, River Styx

Continuing to work on the Coloring Book project this month (which I’ll share once the book is published), and in the meantime have a few other scratchboard assignments to share. Above is a short fiction illustration I did for River Styx this afternoon, and below is a spot illustration for the introduction page. Below that, another assignment for Alfred Hitchcock’s Mystery Magazine.

And speaking of Alfred Hitchcock’s Mystery Magazine; I’ve been doing illustrations for this publication since 1989, and I am looking for back issues from the years 1989-1998 in which my artwork has appeared. If you happen to have copies in your attic gathering dust, drop me an email, and I’d be happy to make an offer on them.

Once the book project is completed, I’ll perhaps have some extra time to work on an animation project that I’ve been thinking about, in conjunction with my band’s new CD release. It’s been several years since I’ve done any animation work, so I’ll likely have to go back and relearn everything all over again. More on this next month.

Death Murder & the Afterlife

Jukejoint Handmedowns, music, self portrait

My band, the Jukejoint Handmedowns have just finished up their third album this past month, and they should be back from the manufacturer in a few weeks. Above is the design for the outside and interior spreads of the CD case, and below is the art for the CD and for both sides of a lyric sheet booklet to be included in the package (the first time we’ve tried doing a lyric sheet). Below that is a press release that we’ve put together for inclusion when we send the album out to radio stations, reviewers, etc.

Moving into Summer

AHMM, Baker Book House, US Catholic, Weekly Standard

Finished up another book project (above is one sample of the 14 portraits I did for this book project on Women from Black History, and I’ll post some more samples once the book is published). I’m still working on a coloring book project of scratchboard illustrations (about 30 of these) and I’ll post some samples of those when the book eventually sees print, as well. Aside from the publishing projects, I had a few shorter turnaround illustrations for some of my magazine clients, and they are pictured below.
