Getting Back to Life Drawing

Figure Studies, personal

After many years away from drawing, working as a graphic artist and typesetter, I became eager to once again try my hand at one of my favorite classes in college, Life Drawing. I audited a course at our local Community College (and would take many more classes over the next few decades), and it was thanks to the encouragement of the Life Drawing instructor that I finally made the decision in 1989 to quit my job and attempt to make a living with my drawing skills (how exactly, was another hurtle I had yet to face up to). These drawings here were all of the same model from one of those early Life Drawing classes. This sort of ‘pastel nude’ art eventually led to one of my biggest early assignments, a textbook cover illustration for MacMillan publishing in 1990.
