Changeover Period

AHMM, River Styx, US Catholic

These are a few pieces I did during the two week ‘transition period’ between when my old computer died and the new one arrived. Some of them were done on my wife’s laptop (a tricky proposition, especially with a color illustration, as it is hard to judge values on the laptop screen), and some were done half on the laptop and half on the new machine. The illustration above and directly below were fiction pieces for River Styx, below that is a fiction piece for Alfred Hitchcock, and at the bottom, the color illustration was for US Catholic.

And speaking of Alfred Hitchcock’s Mystery Magazine; I’ve been doing illustrations for this publication since 1989, and I am looking for back issues from the years 1989-1998 in which my artwork has appeared. If you happen to have copies in your attic gathering dust, drop me an email, and I’d be happy to make an offer on them.

Summer passing much too quickly.

ABA, US Catholic

August has been pretty busy with two concurrent book projects, and other than a few quick turnaround projects like the one above for the American Bar Association and the one below for US Catholic, there hasn’t been much else going on. I have a few other smaller projects coming next week, and will post them when I get a chance.

Moving into Summer

AHMM, Baker Book House, US Catholic, Weekly Standard

Finished up another book project (above is one sample of the 14 portraits I did for this book project on Women from Black History, and I’ll post some more samples once the book is published). I’m still working on a coloring book project of scratchboard illustrations (about 30 of these) and I’ll post some samples of those when the book eventually sees print, as well. Aside from the publishing projects, I had a few shorter turnaround illustrations for some of my magazine clients, and they are pictured below.

Busy Week

Barrons, Llewellyn, US Catholic

Nice to have a busy, hectic week for a change, filled with a variety of projects (halfway through the week, with more to do by the weekend). Had a couple new interesting projects come my way over the weekend (more on those in the future). Working on my annual ‘witches’ project for Llewellyn, plus a piece for Barrons and an unusual portrait assignment for US Catholic. Meanwhile, started¬†on recordings for the Jukejoint Handmedowns upcoming CD release, and have joined the Kent Philharmonia on bass, who are going to be playing Beethoven’s Ninth¬†Symphony for their spring concert this year (which means LOTS of practicing, as it is the most difficult piece of music I’ve ever laid eyes on).
